Take Part In Fairtrade Fortnight - February
2009
Two billion people – a third of humanity – still survive on less than $2 a day. Unfair trade rules keep them in poverty, but they face the global challenges of food shortages and climate change too. Fairtrade is a people’s movement for change that aims to tip the balance of trade in favour of poor producers. We all need Fairtrade more than ever and we all have the power to create positive change for people and planet.
Make it happen. Choose Fairtrade.
Take part in Fairtrade Fortnight 2009 and play your part by joining a powerful global movement for change!

Bristol Key Contacts, Debbie, Edna & Raye have
volunteered to organise this years Traidcraft
Preview of the Autumn 2006 Catalogue for the South
West.
The preview dates are Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd
of September and the event will take place at Wesley
College in Bristol.
This is a great opportunity to see the full range of
crafts and fashion from the new catalogue in a lovely
relaxed atmosphere.
 |
We hope as many as possible of the South Wests
volunteer traders will be able to take advantage
of the preview being spread over 2 days. We would also
encourage you to bring your customers and anyone
else who may be interested in the products.
We are especially interested in potentially new volunteer
traders. This event will provide the opportunity
to meet people who have lots of experience running stalls,
box schemes, fashion shows, quizzes, school assemblies
and giving talks to all age groups.
So please spread the news as far and wide as possible.
A publicity poster is available for you to download,
print off for yourself and pass on (Word
(335Kb) or PDF
(51Kb)).
To make a special trip of it, why not try the delicious
menu available at the colleges restaurant (Word
(22Kb) or PDF
(3Kb)). If this appeals to you, it would greatly help
the caterers if you could let me know numbers and time.
To book the Indian Feast please ring the college direct.
For directions to the college by car, see www.wesley-college-bristol.ac.uk/directions.html.
By train:
a) from Temple Meads - take a No 1 bus to the bottom
of Henbury Rd. Follow the signs to the college which
is a 10 minute walk up the hill.
b) from Parkway if we know your time of arrival
we will endeavour to have volunteers to bring you to
the event. The only other option is to take a taxi.
For more information please contact Debbie Forge on
01275 472391 or e-mail info@valleyfairtrade.org.

August 2005
The opportunity to start preparations for Christmas
seems to come earlier each year.
Some of you may be aware that Traidcraft
sales have increased by 40% in the last two years, more
than mirrored by our own sales through VFT. This is
fantastic news for our producers as well as sending
out a strong message that a growing number of people
want to have a just trade system.
There is a note of caution here that sales are continuing
to increase rapidly and therefore to avoid disappointment
on gifts, it would be better to place
your orders sooner rather than later. Sometimes
it involves placing an order when the ship comes in
and before the item goes out of stock again! I am happy
to hold on to items for you until you want delivery.
If you can spread the word and encourage new people
to join us or would like us to come to an event you
are involved with do get in
touch.
A couple of our box scheme customers are involved in
the 'Go Zero' Food Day, Oct 8th, Chew Magna. This will
be great fun with educational activities for all ages
and various market stalls. Not only will we be present,
it will also cover food grown and produced within a
10 mile radius of Chew Magna. Keep an eye on the Chew
Valley Gazette for further details. We hope to see some
of you there.
Thank you once again for all your support and custom.
Regards
Debbie
Traidcraft have stated that 'As part of our on-going
relationships with producers and in accordance with
our sourcing policies, we periodically have to review
the prices we are charging for products. To ensure producers
continue to get a fair deal, we are having to raise
the price of a number of food lines including sultanas,
mixed dried fruit, brazil nuts. However due to a review
of the manufacturing costs dark Genoa and cherry &
walnut cakes have reduced in price.' Details of the
amended prices can be found here.
